Westminster offers some of the finest boarding school facilities available in North America. Brockelman Student Center opened in 2018, Armstrong Dining Hall started serving meals in 2017 and several student and faculty residences were constructed or remodeled in the last decade. Armour Academic Center opened in 2009 and is LEED gold certified with geothermal heating and cooling.

Students are known at Westminster. With 425 students, a 5:1 student/teacher ratio, and an average class size of 12, Westminster is a place where students have the opportunity and support to succeed.
Faculty

Of the 92 faculty members, 65 percent hold advanced degrees, 67 live on campus and 11 are alumni. Many serve in the traditional roles of teacher, coach, advisor and live in the dorms on campus. The average number of years in education is 19 and at Westminster, 10.
History

Founded in 1888, Westminster moved to its current 200-acre Simsbury, Conn. location in 1900. Cushing Hall, named for founder William Lee Cushing, was the original building on campus and retains a central role in campus life today.

Situated on scenic Williams Hill with views of the Farmington Valley, the campus is within walking distance of historic downtown Simsbury with many restaurants, coffee shops and stores.

With highly individualized guidance and support from a team of college counselors, students develop the strongest possible choices from which to select the school that is “the right fit.” In recent years, approximately 65 percent of our students gained admission to colleges and universities ranked as “Most Competitive” by Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges, and approximately 90 percent gained admission to colleges and universities ranked as “Most or Highly Competitive.”
Our History
Westminster School was founded by William Lee Cushing in 1888 as a boys’ school in Dobbs Ferry, New York. A graduate of Yale, and a firm believer in the traditional form of English boarding school education, Mr. Cushing was strongly influenced by the Reverend Edward Thring, headmaster of Uppingham School in England. Thring believed in “education as training for life.”
